CAREY ABERCROMBIE

our teachers

IF YOU COULD BE ANY CHARACTER / SYMBOL / PERSONALITY WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

An elephant. They are slow and steady but powerful and strong. They show compassion and wisdom but are not afraid to be brutal if they need to. They can balance delicately on an egg without breaking it and can push straight through a big tree.

HOW WOULD YOU ‘CREATIVELY’ DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF PRACTICE?

Like a Fever tree. Loved by elephants. Grounded and strong with the ability to move and grow allowing students to blossom into their own practice and reveal their true colours. Fever trees often grow in beautiful forests with a wide canopy nurturing all sorts of creatures big and small.

WHAT DO YOU FIND THE GREATEST BENEFITS OF YOUR YOGA PRACTICE TO BE?

Yoga and mindfulness has helped me to manage the effects of trauma and post traumatic stress disorder which lead me to depression and an absolute disconnection with my own body. It’s through my Yoga practice and being able to stay more connected to present moment experiences that I have learned to be more self compassionate and in turn more compassionate to others. I have been able to heal my own hurts and build up more caring relationships.

WHAT IS THE LESSON / GIFT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR STUDENTS TAKE AWAY AFTER ATTENDING YOUR CLASS?

I hope to share the same benefits I have received. I hope that my students are able to begin to recognise their full potential physically and spiritually and to become more aware of each present moment experience, recognising the miracle in each ordinary moment.

CARMEN KELLY

our teachersIF YOU COULD BE ANY CHARACTER / SYMBOL / PERSONALITY WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Kung Fu Panda. Because he is fun loving and doesn’t take anything too seriously, but is still completely dedicated to pursuing his art.

HOW WOULD YOU ‘CREATIVELY’ DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF PRACTICE?

I teach Vinyasa Yoga as I enjoy the movement through the different Asanas and I feel that yoga is not about being static but rather about moving with the breath while finding your natural rhythm.

WHAT DO YOU FIND THE GREATEST BENEFITS OF YOUR YOGA PRACTICE TO BE?

For me yoga creates a calm space within my mind allowing me to present and enjoy each moment life has to offer. Yoga has taught me to appreciate and be grateful for every moment even the difficult ones as it is through the difficult times that you grow the most, much the same as working through a difficult posture in your Asana practice.

WHAT IS THE LESSON / GIFT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR STUDENTS TAKE AWAY AFTER ATTENDING YOUR CLASS?

I would hope that each of my students get to know themselves a little better through each class and they take away a sense of gratitude that then spills out into the world around them making their lives more enjoyable.

I teach Vinyasa Yoga which is the movement of the body through a series of yoga postures using the power of the breath. The breath synchronised movement allows the asana practice to take on an almost dance like quality allowing the students to fully express themselves and find their natural rhythm not only on the mat but in their individual lives.

LINDA ERSKINE

our teachersIF YOU COULD BE ANY CHARACTER / SYMBOL / PERSONALITY WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

I think I’d like to be a superhero that flies, that would be so cool, viewing the world from a different perspective and being able to travel anywhere in the world easily, and of course as I’m a super hero…helping people in trouble.

HOW WOULD YOU ‘CREATIVELY’ DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF PRACTICE?

I teach Hatha Yoga as a flow. I come from an aerobics background so have always taught one one movement transitioning to the next. Gone are the days of loud pumping music and high impact grapevines! I try and challenge my students and their bodies in other ways now.

WHAT DO YOU FIND THE GREATEST BENEFITS OF YOUR YOGA PRACTICE TO BE?

For me, yoga is a way of life which helps me to lead a calm and happy existence. On a practical level it keeps me strong and supple as my body gently ages.

WHAT IS THE LESSON / GIFT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR STUDENTS TAKE AWAY AFTER ATTENDING YOUR CLASS?

I’d like to think that my students will leave with a sense of well being, happiness and hopefully have had fun as well as perhaps facing a few challenges. We may all think that we want to stand on our heads but really we just want to feel better and be happy.

DR MEGAN MEDINA

our teachersA Homeopath and yoga instructor, Megan blends her western knowledge gained from her experience as a Doctor, with the ancient eastern knowledge passed through generations of yoga teachers. Megan’s classes emphasis safety, breath, alignment, and free flowing movement, while teaching students ways to strengthen and lengthen their bodies to handle the stresses of our modern lifestyle.

IF YOU COULD BE ANY CHARACTER / SYMBOL / PERSONALITY WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

A butterfly…free, happy, light and loving.

HOW WOULD YOU ‘CREATIVELY’ DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF PRACTICE?

A symbiotic blend of athletically challenging poses, deep yogic breathing and gentle meditation techniques that is as challenging as it is relaxing, powerful as it is gentle. It takes you on a journey, way past your comfort zone and encourages you to extend past your boundaries and explore the wonders of your body, mind and soul.

WHAT DO YOU FIND THE GREATEST BENEFITS OF YOUR YOGA PRACTICE TO BE?

Immense inner peace.

WHAT IS THE LESSON / GIFT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR STUDENTS TAKE AWAY AFTER ATTENDING YOUR CLASS?

I practice in gratitude and teach in gratitude.

MERYL CURRIE

our teachersIF YOU COULD BE ANY CHARACTER / SYMBOL / PERSONALITY WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Fire, because it symbolises passion, creativity and the search for truth, wisdom and enlightenment.

HOW WOULD YOU ‘CREATIVELY’ DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF PRACTICE?

I love yoga’s versatility and ability to reflect where you are physically, mentally or emotionally on any given day. Sometimes I want to get my sweat on or be playful, whilst others may be more introspective and mediative working deep into poses. My teaching also reflects the many aspects of yoga. Power classes are strength based and physically challenging. Foundation classes are a space to gain a deeper understanding of how to practice asana safely and effectively to develop your practice, heal your body and / or enhance your other sport / activities. Sivananda classes are a traditional sequence aimed at finding stillness by holding postures for longer.

WHAT DO YOU FIND THE GREATEST BENEFITS OF YOUR YOGA PRACTICE TO BE?

Yoga is my medicine. It keeps both my body and mind healthy, strong and in balance.

WHAT IS THE LESSON / GIFT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR STUDENTS TAKE AWAY AFTER ATTENDING YOUR CLASS?

Everyone comes to a yoga class for different reasons and yoga is a bit like salt – it enhances the flavour of almost everything. I’d like my students to become empowered through their practice in their personal endeavours be they physical, professional or personal.

SOLVEIG GEVERS

our teachersIF YOU COULD BE ANY CHARACTER / SYMBOL / PERSONALITY WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

I’d definitely be an Avatar! I cannot think of anything better than to be so in tune with nature.

HOW WOULD YOU ‘CREATIVELY’ DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF PRACTICE?

Be present. Be willing. Be open. Be gentle. Embrace challenges. Overcome fears. But don’t push. Yoga is not about pushing. Surrender. And be kind. Always. Vinyasa yoga is a beautiful balance between flowing movement and breath, strength and flexibility and so I try to teach a dynamic and integrative class so that beginners don’t feel overwhelmed and the advanced still feel challenged.

WHAT DO YOU FIND THE GREATEST BENEFITS OF YOUR YOGA PRACTICE TO BE?

Yoga has become a very honest and loyal friend. On or off the mat, yoga continues to remind me to be present, be authentic, be mindful and most of all to be grateful each day. Gratitude is a simple yet potent tool that can transform your experience of life in the most beautiful way.

WHAT IS THE LESSON / GIFT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR STUDENTS TAKE AWAY AFTER ATTENDING YOUR CLASS?

I hope to share a non-judgement and unconditional space where students are able to sweat out the stress, forget about any worries from the day and just dedicate that hour to being present with the body, mind and breath. Yoga gifts us with a glowing sense of well being where you are both physically and mentally challenged but you walk out of the studio feeling deeply relaxed and rejuvenated.
